Server Quality Test – Which hosting servers are more reliable?
Servers are computers which store your website files and data such as your theme, database, contents, images,. Each time someone visits your website, the browser sends the request to fetch your website files from the server. The quality of your hosting server determines how fast and efficiently those requests are served.
How can we test the quality of a hosting companies server?
This can be done by sending multiple visitors to your site at the same time and measuring the load time. The servers are put under high stress with multiple concurrent visits to a site. A high-quality server will respond better to these high stress than low-quality servers.
We sent 1 to 100 concurrent visitors to an identical webpage hosted under these hosting company and calculated the load time. Here’s the result.
The green line indicates the number of visitors and the blue line represents the adjacent load time as the traffic increases.
HostGator test result
HostGator load time was 400ms until it reached 50 visitors. After that, load time increased to 1s and was not consistent. This is understandable considering that shared hosting servers are not known for handling more than 50 concurrent visits.
iPage test result
When it comes to iPage, the initial load time was 3* higher than HostGator with 1.23s. This load time was consistent until 100 visitors.
Winner:- HostGator. HostGator servers were able to handle the stress more efficiently than iPage returning faster load time.
Website Speed Test
Website speed is an essential aspect of your website and your web hosting plays a large role in your website speed.
It is believed that users abandon a website which takes more than 3 seconds to load. Also, Google has incorporated website speed as an important metric in the search engine ranking algorithm.
Are HostGator and iPage fast?
We tested this by recording load time of an identical web page hosted under both these hostings from three locations namely New York, Amsterdam, and Melbourne.
Here are the results.
HostGator Speed Test Result
|Testing Location||Test 1||Test 2||Test 3|
iPage Speed Test Result
|Testing Location||Test 1||Test 2||Test 3|
HostGator loaded better from all the above locations. Therefore, it can be concluded that HostGator performs better than iPage in all aspects of performance.

You may face technical issues with the web host you use, and some of those issues can only be solved using customer support. Therefore, it’s necessary to have good customer service with experienced technicians in the fields of servers and customer support.
HostGator has a very friendly 24/7/365 customer support which gives us the exact wait time until a representative is available. Moreover, they are very fast, and they know WordPress and many other blogging platforms well. They provide a toll-free number for U.S. citizens and international call-in support services.
These are some of the areas that are lacking in iPage Support.
- The support experts are very friendly, but not very fast in solving issues.
- Their live chat team takes more than 10-15 minutes for initial queries, which is not acceptable for any quality support team. They need to be quicker and more reliable when users have problems.
We tested the support of both these hosting company for efficiency and speed by actually contacting them. Here are the results.
HostGator support was faster and more efficient compared to iPage. It took us only 2 minutes to reach HostGator whereas iPage took more than 5 minutes to get connected to their chat.
Winner: HostGator – Quick and more reliable when users have difficulties.

Control Panel – Are they both user-friendly?
Control panels act as an intermediary between a user and a host. The user can access all the tools related to web hosting and billing from the control panel. HostGator uses cPanel whereas iPage uses its own vDeck control panel.
For me, HostGator’s control panel illustrates why cPanel is the most used control panel in the world. The vDeck control panel is less popular and doesn’t offer a wide range of functionality like cPanel.
HostGator’s VPS and dedicated server plans use cPanel with WHM control panel. WHM control panel is the most advanced version of cPanel and includes many more features than the basic model. If you are not familiar with control panels, I feel HostGator’s version is more accessible and easier to understand compared to any other.
HostGator cPanel: Test a Demo
Winner: HostGator- More Functionality, and appears easier for beginners.
My Verdict – HostGator vs iPage
You have seen in the above HostGator vs. iPage review that HostGator offers an excellent web hosting platform for all users. HostGator is a better choice with its excellent uptime, speed, and support. I wouldn’t recommend iPage for hosting for your website simply because they are very slow and not as reliable as HostGator.
Why HostGator is the best choice for your website?
- 99.99% uptime guarantee throughout the year.
- High-speed website for all your traffic.
- 24/7 highly reliable customer support team.
