Performance Report

Performance is a very vital component in winning the trust of your new visitors and maintaining trust with your current visitors.  HostGator has invested millions of dollars in setting up a robust network which will ensure high quality hosting servers to the millions of domain they host. Additionally, they have also setup special hosting companies for emerging markets like India with a name

Both iPage and HostGator use Intel Xeon Quad core Processor to maintain their data centers. iPage has a good uptime and downtime record, with a moderately average server speed.

HostGator Vs. iPage -Uptime Report

Below, you can see the uptime report for HostGator and iPage for the last several months. HostGator seems to perform very well in these aspects; they have not suffered any major downtimes recently.

For your reference, I have given the uptime report of this website, which runs on HostGator. My website uptime hardly went below 99.98% for any month.

Winner: HostGator- Able to fulfill its 99.99% uptime guarantee way better than iPage.

Server Response Time  & Website Speed Test

I use a server response test to determine the quality of servers used by web hosting companies. Server response time was tested for HostGator and iPage for a couple of website. In this area, HostGator performed exceptionally well compared to iPage.

iPage Server response time

Websites running with HostGator are usually faster than iPage with an average load time of 1.8 seconds compared to the 2.4 seconds taken by iPage. These figures get better with on-page optimisation.

Plans & Prices

I have gone through many reviews about HostGator Vs iPage. In all of them, I was struck by the fact that HostGator is perceived to be just used for Business class hosting, whereas iPage is used for small-scale website hosting. However, this perception is completely wrong. HostGator has pretty decent small-scale hosting services. They are just overshadowed by HostGator’s great business class hosting, which you can get for $10.36/month with the ability to host unlimited domains with good amounts of incoming traffic. HostGator’s VPS plan starts at $9.94/mo, and goes up to $78.99/mo.

IPage has a good shared Hosting service, but it seems little expensive when compared to the quality of hosting offered by HostGator.

HostGator Prices And Plans

iPage Prices And Plans

iPage Prices and Plans

Winner: HostGator – Best quality for a lower price. iPage has a better initial rate, but their shared hosting renews at $112/year, much higher than HostGator’s $82.22/year.

Customer Support

You may face technical issues with the web host you use, and some of those issues can only be solved using customer support. Therefore, it’s necessary to have good customer service with experienced technicians in the fields of servers and customer support.

HostGator has a very friendly 24/7/365 customer support which gives us the exact wait time until a representative is available. Moreover, they are very fast, and they know WordPress and many other blogging platforms well. They provide a toll-free number for U.S. citizens and international call-in support services.

These are some of the areas that are lacking in iPage: The support experts are very friendly, but not very fast in solving issues. Their live chat team takes more than 10-15 minutes for initial queries, which is not acceptable for any quality support team. They need to be quicker and more reliable when users have problems.

Winner: HostGator – Quick and more reliable when users have difficulties.

Freebies with iPage are :

  • Free sitelock protection worth $100
  • Free wordpress Installation

Control Panel

Control panels act as an intermediary between a user and a host. The user can access all the tools related to web hosting and billing from the control panel. HostGator uses cPanel whereas iPage uses its own vDeck control panel. For me, HostGator’s control panel illustrates why cPanel is the most used control panel in the world. The vDeck control panel is less popular and doesn’t offer a wide range of functionality like cPanel.

HostGator’s VPS and dedicated server plans use cPanel with WHM control panel. WHM control panel is the most advanced version of cPanel and includes many more features than the basic model. If you are not familiar with control panels, I feel HostGator’s version is more accessible and easier to understand compared to any other.

HostGator cPanel: Have a Demo

Winner: HostGator- More Functionality, and appears easier for beginners.

My Verdict : HostGator vs iPage

You have seen in the above HostGator vs. iPage review that HostGator offers an excellent web hosting platform for all users. Even though both these web hosting companies promise 99.99% uptime, I don’t see iPage fulfilling this promise. HostGator is a better choice.

Why HostGator is the best choice for your website?

  • 99.99% uptime guarantee through out the year.
  • High speed website for all your traffic.
  • 24/7 highly reliable customer support team.
  • Uses cPanel, which is the most user friendly control panel in the world.
  • Protect your site and database from viruses and provides maximum security.
  • Plans available for all requirements with great features at an affordable price.

  1. Of Course, Hostgator rocks… The best thing about hostgator has been their features at such low rates. To add to it the support they provide gives us WITH IN A MINUTE SOLUTION for almost all problems.

I am in the webdesigning circle for around 3 to 4 years from now and had had experiences with some of the worst and some of the best hosting sites. Right from the very cheap to the very expensive ones, Hostgator tops the chart for its value. I had been looking for a reliable webhosting when I overcame Hostgator. The thing being it has local servers in India just added to my benefits. After a bit of Second thoughts I paid them the money and now the association with them has been 2 valuable years of reliable hosting…

Any Newbie would consider uptime as the most important aspect to consider and hostgator really does the job with almost 99% uptime. There have been a few times my site have been down due to various issues and the support has helped me to get back online in no time.

Any webhosting isn’t free from few problems and so is hostgator but these are slight niggles almost all times and you need not be worrying too much. And further, the support always comes to your help.

I would certainly recommend Hostgator to anybody reading this review just to experience their support.Mind you, you will enjoy their tireless support while you stay with them.

  2. Before choosing my domain and hosting provider, I did a lot of research as I am a technical person and I wanted to have the best for me. I chose iPage as the initial costing was very low which I felt very good for me. But their support is very annoying. They have a lot of non technical staffs and each staff deals a same problem in different ways and makes more problem. They wasted a lot of my time and for small issue they take a lot of time to solve, even they can’t solve it. They carry on apologising to me but it is time and stress what matters. I will never recommend such a rubbish service to anyone. If anyone don’t agree with me, please contact me and I will supply the evidences. Thanks.

  3. I do not recommend Ipage. There are too many problems with very slow servers and in some cases Gateway Timeouts or other errors that cause webpages to not display at all. If you have something for sale on your website you can expect lost sales because of this. Another problem is with the W3 Total Cache plugin recommended by Ipage. This plugin cannot tell the difference between edit mode pages and the ones visitors to the site are supposed to see. Changing settings has no effect on the problem. The sad reality is that there are many complaints against nearly all the webhosting companies. But since some people are getting these websites for a commercial purpose it matters greatly if the webpages don’t load within 3 or 4 seconds.

  4. We have been with Hostgator since 2005 and use them for our web design clients as well, they are the best out there bar none. In almost a decade I have rarely seen any downtime of our website or our clients’ websites, Currently support request responses are a bit longer than they used to be since, but if a ticket isn’t answered in the time I need I just pick up a phone and call and get the problem solved almost immediately. Hostgator is highly recommended for quality hosting.

    1. HI,

Seen your article in details – very nicely explained. I am also in the web design fields and have had experience with some Web hosts in India and abroad. I am using HG’s Linux Reseller plan for my work and i am satisfied with their service and Support. I have got guaranteed 99.9% uptime every month. And i check/monitored this with some tools. HG is highly recommended. However i have NO such exp with iPage. Seen that they are little Cheaper compared to HG. But spending some more penny you can sleep well. Otherwise you have to face problems with you sites – this is a headache.

      Hope this will help. Thanks.
